Our Newest Committee…Evangelization

Dear Parishioners,

We are starting a very exciting new effort in our parish with the creation of an Evangelization Committee.

Most Catholics do not embrace evangelization. Some don’t understand what it means or what it involves; others just feel uncomfortable thinking about it.

One of the best ways to look at evangelization is to think of it as extending an invitation. Yes, inviting others to join our faith family is evangelization!

You may be asking yourself, “What can I do to invite more people to our faith community?” Well, there are a lot of things we can be doing – new and creative things.
For example, our first endeavor is called “Project Trick or Treat.” We are asking parishioners to take a stack of information cards (available on the table in the Church vestibule area) and attach them to the Halloween candy they will be handing out or simply place the card in the goody bags with the candy when the Trick-or-Treaters come to their door. This is a simple, non-invasive and anonymous way of promoting our parish and inviting people to join us.

We often hear feedback that St. Joseph’s and St. Paul’s is a very welcoming and friendly place to worship; and we often hear visitors say that they are “shopping around” and are impressed with our little parish. There is a lot to be said about that, but how welcoming and friendly are we? Are we friendly enough to invite others to join us? Some of us are, but most of us don’t have a master plan. We do not have an organized approach for getting the word out about all the special and impactful things that we are doing.

This is your chance. This is your call to action! If you have the time and interest to join our group – great. If you don’t – all we ask is that you consider helping us execute the plan. When the disciples of 2,000 years ago evangelized, they left their families and all of their belongings behind; when they encountered opposition they were tortured or killed. Thank God times have changed and neither will happen today. But we are asking for your commitment to make our Church and our parish a better place. Answer God’s call and make a difference.

Please feel free to contact me at if you have any questions, comments, or feedback or if you would like to join this committee.
