Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and Adult Confirmation RCIA: Information Session

Any baptized christian adult interested in receiving Confirmation and completing their initiation into the Catholic Church, as well as any unbaptized adult interesting in finding out more about becoming Catholic, should plan on attending an information session in October - Date to be announced here and in the bulletin, or contact

Joe Varone (jvarone@earthlink.net) directly to find out more about our parish’s options.

RCIA: Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process through which interested adults and older children are gradually introduced to the Roman Catholic way of life. Children who were baptized as infants are also initiated through an adapted process of this rite.

  • Those interested in learning more about the RCIA process, to start or complete their sacramental initiation in the Roman Catholic community, to learn more about their faith, or to become an RCIA team member, may contact Joe Varone by emailing or calling the Parish Office.

More About RCIA

  • The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process of welcoming newcomers into full communion with the Catholic Church. RCIA involves not just the newcomer or "inquirer" but all the members of the community who, by prayer and personal example, help the inquirer find a home in the Catholic faith community.

  • RCIA is open to all adults including those who are already Catholic, who seek to refresh their faith or want to learn more about our Catholic Christian tradition.

  • RCIA is for persons who have never been baptized. These men and women are called "Catechumens."

  • RCIA is also for persons who have been baptized in another Christian faith, but are seeking to join the Catholic Church. These men and women are called "Candidates."

  • And those who have been baptized in the Catholic faith but who have never received the Sacraments of Eucharist and or Confirmation. They are also called "Candidates."

  • RCIA is a powerful means of evangelization and catechesis employing a process similar to the one used to spread the good news in the first few centuries of the Church. Adults who have experienced RCIA say that it is a life-changing process whose fruit is a more meaningful life and an intimate relationship with Jesus, the Christ.

  • Parishioners may serve as sponsors for a catechumen or candidate. Sponsors help to nurture the faith life of the catechumen or candidate by listening, helping to answer questions, and by their prayers and faithful witness to the gospel.
